SIMS ("Sustainable Integrated Mobility Solutions") aims to support the local and regional mobility policy and renew movement habits and experiments on mobility plane with the aid of innovative smartphone and GPS technology, developed by the University of Ghent. This technology makes it possible to collect data on the trajectories of pedestrians, cyclists, public transport users and motorists and helps us to an solve an important gap in the field of traffic information.
Unlike car traffic, little data is collected on the route selection and of cyclists and pedestrians. These data are crucial for the development of a smart and sustainable mobility policy. By mapping and visualizing how pedestrians, cyclists and users of public transport move and how all road users try alternative mobility options makes it possible to create a customer-oriented and smart bicycle and pedestrian policy.
